Graduation in Marine Engineering refers to a four-year bachelor’s degree program that trains students in ship machinery, engine operations, maintenance, and ship safety procedures. The most common course for this is B.Tech in Marine Engineering.
To enroll, candidates must have:
- Completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) with at least 60% marks.
- Minimum 50% marks in English in either class 10 or 12.
- Medical fitness as per DG Shipping standards, including 6/6 eyesight (corrected vision allowed) and no color blindness.
Graduates start as Trainee Marine Engineers (TME) or Junior Engineers and progress through the ranks:
- Fourth Engineer
- Third Engineer
- Second Engineer
- Chief Engineer (highest rank in the engine department)
- A Junior Engineer earns between $1,500 to $3,500 per month.
- A Chief Engineer can earn $12,000 or more per month depending on experience and the type of vessel.
