Your guide to a successful career in the Merchant Navy
Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a one-year pre-sea training program that prepares candidates to become deck officers in the Merchant Navy. After completing this course, candidates undergo sea training and later pursue further exams to become officers.
To enroll, candidates must have:
- Completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) with at least 60% marks.
- Minimum 50% marks in English in either Class 10 or 12.
- Medical fitness as per DG Shipping standards, including 6/6 eyesight and no color blindness.
After completing DNS and gaining sea experience, candidates appear for exams and progress through ranks:
- Deck Cadet
- Third Officer
- Second Officer
- Chief Officer
- Captain
The starting salary as a Deck Cadet ranges from $500 to $1,500 per month, and as candidates gain experience, they can earn up to $10,000+ per month as a Captain.
