Eligibility Course Eligibility

Category 1: Graduation in marine engineering  BE or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 50% marks in the final year.

  • Category 2: A full-time BE or B.Tech in all Mechanical Engineering streams, such as Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Electronics, Mechanical and Automobile, etc. However, the word “Mechanical” should appear first, indicating that Mechanical Engineering is the core, and the second subject is the elective.
  • Category 3: Candidates with a degree in all Naval Architecture streams, such as Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding, etc. However, the word “Naval Architecture” should appear first, indicating that Naval Architecture is the core, and the second subject is the elective.

The candidate must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in English language in 10th, 12th, or the Degree Exam.

  • Passport is mandatory.
  • Age limit: Maximum 28 years.
  • Medical standard: Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight up to (+ or -) 2.5 with no color blindness. Minimum height should be 157 centimeters.

  • Graduation in marine engineering Candidates from Category 1, 2, and 3 must have obtained their BE / B.Tech degree or any higher degree such as a 5-year integrated M.E / M.Tech degree from an AICTE-approved institute, IITs, or University Engineering Colleges (colleges directly run by a university).
  • Category 1 candidates are exempted from appearing in all subjects of Part ‘A’ of both MEO Class – IV and MEO Class – II grade examinations.
  • Category 2 and 3 candidates must pass Part ‘A’ subjects of both MEO Class – IV and MEO Class – II grade examinations. However, they may be considered for exemption from Mathematics and Applied Mechanics subjects.
  • A 5% relaxation in English marks will be granted to candidates who are natives of Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, belong to Scheduled Tribes, and whose both parents were born in those islands and belong to the Scheduled Tribes of those islands.
  • The maximum age limit mentioned above applies to General Category candidates.
  • The maximum age limit for Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates is relaxed by 5 years.
  • The maximum age limit for Non-Creamy Layer Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates is relaxed by 3 years.
  • The maximum age limit for women candidates of each category is relaxed by an additional 2 years.

Course Description

  • The Graduate Marine Engineering Course is a one-year residential program where the cadets undergo theoretical classes with a demonstration in well-equipped laboratories and six months of Ship in Campus training.
  • Apart from the regular curriculum, the cadets are trained in our Ship in Campus to monitor normal operations of the main engine, including all auxiliary machinery, and develop the capability to troubleshoot malfunctions and perform repair and maintenance.
  • Marine Engineering cadets are trained in using onboard workshops and tools to carry out repairs of components and manufacture simple items. The training also includes the development of competency in verbal communication, safety culture in the maritime environment, and important aspects of shipping

Certificate

  • Successful candidates will be given D.G. Shipping Approved Course Completion Certificate, INDoS No., STCW Course Certificates and Indian CDC.

    Exempted from appearing in MEO Class IV Part A examination
  • 6 months of duly documented sea service as Assistant Marine Engineer Officer in charge of an engineering watch
  • Completion of advanced safety training courses: AFF, PSCRB, MFA, and a three-month preparatory course (optional) to obtain Marine Engineering Officer Class IV Certificate of Competency
  • Appear for MEO Class IV Part B MMD examination – Obtain MEO Class IV Certificate of Competency
  • 12 months of approved sea service as MEO Class IV Engineering Officer in charge of an engineering watch
  • 4 months training course – Appear for MMD examination MEO Class II Part B – Obtain Class II Marine Engineering Officer Certificate of Competency (DME to appear for Part A)
  • 18 months of approved sea service as MEO Class II Officer in charge of an engineering watch
  • 2 months Engineering Management Training Course – Obtain Class I Marine Engineering Officer Certificate of Competency
  • Promoted to Chief Engineering Officer   
  • Graduation in marine engineering
